Preventing accidents in the workplace is extremely important. Having the appropriate equipment, posture and ergonomic setup can make all the difference. We help employers identify risks and train their employees to reduce accidents.

Prevention programs are important in reducing company and employee risk. Our programs successfully blend employee responsibility with the assurance that the company is attentive to workers' needs and committed to providing a healthy work environment. This empowers employees and creates goodwill.

Occupational health professionals often describe employees as "industrial athletes". These "athletes" may work many more hours/days per year than a professional football player (for example) who plays less than 20 games per season.

To keep an industrial team running smoothly:

Coaches (Supervisors)

Identify risks: Personal Care Physical Therapy can provide training to supervisors to identify behaviors, such as poor body mechanics, that place an employee at risk for injury. Our training also addresses "coaching" techniques to gain team member cooperation with the recommended changes.

Identify some simple injuries: Coaches should be aware of basic symptoms related to muscle strains, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.

Work injury reporting: Do your supervisors know the most important element determining the overall cost of a claim?

Team Members (Workers)

Education on the "Safety Attitude": Team members need a knowledge of safety and why it's important to them.

Body Mechanics Training: For specific work tasks and how this can carryover into their personal lives.

Preventative stretching and "Core" strength training programs: These can help to prevent injuries and improve workday endurance.

Team members can be made aware of the interplay between work, fitness, and fun. Many of us do not realize that our choice of home/hobby/recreational activities may be causing fatigue and stress to the same muscle groups that we use all day at work. For example: using a fishing reel or the accelerator on a "quad" may place the same stresses on the carpal tunnel as using some equipment at work.
